But I’m a big fan of learning about people, and though the museum is literally only a few rooms, and I was literally the only person there for a good hour and a quarter of the hour and a half I spent there. Visit the now extinct volcanic mountain for a fun day in nature and for the stunning views at the top. Even the country’s museum is located in the port amidst the shopping malls. The archway through the museum ushers you into the downtown area for further explorations.
Hop on the West Indies’ last railway— double-decker railcars that travel along a line built a century ago to transport sugarcane across the island. You’ll pass historical estates and countryside filled with tall wild sugarcane. The heart of Basseterre is Independence Square, the former slave market, located 4 blocks north of the cruise terminal. It was named once Pall Mall square but was renamed Independence square in 1983 when St Kits achieved political independence.
