Opening Hours and Holidays:

This section of the island is very narrow (north to south), allowing you to actually walk across the island from South Frigate Bay to North Frigate Bay. If you don't yet have a St Kitts cruise booked, check out our link below. There you'll find every cruise option to this port with the cheapest available pricing options. Adjoining the Wingfield Estate is Romney Manor, the estate’s Great House named after the Earls of Romney who owned it for 200 years. It is surrounded by botanical gardens with green lawns and flowering shrubs. The sounds of birds and glimpse of butterflies makes this a peaceful setting where the gardens blend into the rainforest.

Where Cruise Ships Dock in St Kitts

One of the most popular things to do when visiting St Kitts is take a ride on the St Kitts Scenic Railway. This heritage railway follows an old 18-mile narrow-gauge trail that used to be used for the transportation of sugar cane during the island’s sugar manufacturing days. Whilst onboard there is commentary detailing the sights and the history, and often a choir in traditional dress to keep you entertained. The 3-hour tour is completed with 12 miles on a sightseeing bus completing the full 30-mile circular route around the island. Along the journey visitors will see abandoned windmills, sugar cane estates, amazing views, Brimstone Fortress and more.

St. Kitts Beaches

But I’m a big fan of learning about people, and though the museum is literally only a few rooms, and I was literally the only person there for a good hour and a quarter of the hour and a half I spent there. Keep walking straight up and you’ll be at The Circus, a square named after Piccadilly Circus. Even though we only docked in Basseterre once every two weeks- and I only ever bought one thing from her. Upon exiting the terminal area, you’ll find yourself on Bay Road street filled with numerous shops, restaurants, and a few historic landmarks. Basseterre’s historic old town is located a stone’s throw from there. Most cruise ships dock at the main pier in Port Zante, which is perpendicular to the shoreline.

If only one price is shown you can generally assume it is in ECD. A few cafes which offer free WiFi for customers can be found in town. Sky Safari Tours is a highly advanced, scenic zip line tour through the St. Kitts Rainforest, flying over Wingfrield River. This zip line course consists of one trainer line, 180ft long, followed by four larger zip line, lengths from 500ft to 1,350 ft. This tour strives to unite eco-adventure with St. Kitts interpretive knowledge.

Rainforest Zipline Adventure

Of course, you have the chance to do some retail therapy in the store too! A stop here often makes up part of a cruise excursion itinerary. The ferry pier in Nevis is located at Charlestown, the capital city and birthplace of Alexander Hamilton. Botanical Gardens are nice to see, but you need to take a cab and ride for around minutes to get there.

From the top, you can get amazing panoramic views of the neighboring islands including Saba, Statia, St Barths, and Nevis. This tour is one of St Kitts’s highlights and allows you to take in the stunning views of the coast, mountains, forests, villages, farms, canyons, and bridges. You’ll see landmarks such as St. Paul’s Village, Brimstone Hill Fortress, and Old Road Town.

(There are a few included in this post.) But there is SO MUCH MORE to see on this stunning Caribbean island. Whether you’re docking in Basseterre cruise port on a ship, or even if you’re staying on the island for more than a day, here are some ideas of the best things to see on the beautiful island of St Kitts. The site of Romney Manor encompasses 8 acres and the grounds have a strong sugar distilling history. There are no organised tours offered here but visitors are able to wander the gardens at their leisure and enjoy some rum punch at the Rainforest Bar. Often if you go with the ship line then they will guide you around. Also on site is a shop and collection of the Caribelle Batik works which can be admired and often you can see colourful clothes being made.

The Island of St Kitts

Whether you decide to explore the island or hit the beaches, make sure to plan your day ahead to fully enjoy this charming port of call. Another famous landmark and a frequent stop in sightseeing tours is Romney Manor, located 25 minutes drive along the west coast toward Brimstone Hill Fortress. Romney Manor was a plantation house owned by the great, great, great grandfather of Thomas Jefferson. If this is your first time in St Kitts and you want to get to know the island, make sure you start your day on a guided tour of St Kitts and learn the history and lores of St Kitts.

We highly recommend the Resort Day Pass option for use of this beach and all of the other amenities offered by the Marriott. At most of the beaches in St Kitts, you won’t find the white sand that you may be picturing. Some people enjoy this very natural look, while others may head to the Marriott Resort for the picturesque white sands. Timothy Hill Viewpoint is located only a minute drive from the St Kitts cruise terminal and what you’ll see there is absolutely breathtaking!

Although cruise travelers will not have the opportunity to enjoy the famous nightlife of St Kitts, you will have more than enough time to explore most of the island's top highlights and attractions. The estate is included in many cruise excursions and island tour. There are information signs if you visit independently by taxi and entry is free.

Hit the small town, tour sugar plantations and stop for a snack break along the way. Sports shoes are a must when enjoying the views from a bicycle, get yours here. St. Kitts is full of rich and diverse history about its colonialism. Engage and mingle with a few for some deep learning of the Caribbean cruise island. It’s lovely to gaze upon and some years back, the beach was completely untouched by human hands. It’s arguably the best beach in St Kitts due to its powdery white sandy beach.

Works started in early-2018 and the project was completed within 18 months (in November 2019). Pelican Shopping Mall, located within walking distance of the port, contains approximately 24 stores including some of the Caribbean’s major retail outlets. Oranjestad – the capital and cruise port of Aruba – is a very neat city, clean, well kept that embraces you with a sense of relaxed safety. As in many Caribbean Islands, there are excellent independent tour operators and local guides in St Kitts that provide outstanding service with matchless pricing. Considering how easy it is to book tours online with these local guides, it is advisable to do some basic research before paying for a shorex with your cruise line. Among many other advantages, it should be underlined that most local guides offer specifically tailored tours and, above all, with much smaller groups.

The locals love partying on this beach during public holidays and weekends. The reward is a beautiful volcanic mountaintop and its accompanying vistas at the end of the hike. The great thing about this rainforest is that it has a twist, it doesn’t rain all the time, thus giving it a more approachable manner.

Visit the now extinct volcanic mountain for a fun day in nature and for the stunning views at the top. Even the country’s museum is located in the port amidst the shopping malls. The archway through the museum ushers you into the downtown area for further explorations.

Hop on the West Indies’ last railway— double-decker railcars that travel along a line built a century ago to transport sugarcane across the island. You’ll pass historical estates and countryside filled with tall wild sugarcane. The heart of Basseterre is Independence Square, the former slave market, located 4 blocks north of the cruise terminal. It was named once Pall Mall square but was renamed Independence square in 1983 when St Kits achieved political independence.
